TechCommNZ 2024 (Workshop): Building an online portfolio in 90 minutes
Link to full Talk
The idea was to expose folks to a docs-as-code methodology, along with getting their own online version of a portfolio created, something they could keep working on, and experimenting.
My workshop covered the basics of why it is important to have an online portfolio, maintainability and accessibility, and the tools needed to build a portfolio with minimal to no costs (other than the effort of creating and updating it).
Feedback
Some of the feedback I received from the audience was:
- You stayed calm throughout the workshop, despite the fact that you had to troubleshoot for a few of the folks.
- This was a worthwhile opportunity to get to know another toolbox or set of tools for whenever we are ready to create an online portfolio. Creating and publishing an online portfolio is something I still need to think about, so I admit the workshop requirements (downloads, creating a GitHub account) were a little overwhelming. It was great to see that Swapnil had addressed this by having the written instructions available to us at the session. He is a helpful and enthusiastic instructor.
- The workshop material was inclusive, and catered to people with different cognitive and technical abilities.
